Teaching Philosophy 2009-2010

The reason I am becoming a teacher was sparked by the love that I have for photography, children, and the prodigious teachers that I have been blessed with in my life. These teachers are here for me and help me through a lot of things; they uplift, and got me over many hills.  They are my teachers, my mentors, my role models and best of all they are my friends. They have beyond a doubt went above and past the call of a teacher and taken it to the next level.  I told them about my passion of photography, when mom and dad did not think it was what I should do. They help raised me up an along came the vision and intense passion, that I too could touch the lives of my students in the way they have touched mines.

These teachers exhibit all that it means to be a teacher to me, they where there to listen to me when I needed a shoulder to cry on, they where there when I needed a ride, they where there at 10 pm at night to help me with math, and other homework they where the teachers that no matter how bad the school district was supposedly, they where the teachers that would not give up hope on us, they where the teachers that had confidence that we could do the material, they where the teachers that had the patience no matter how many question that we asked them, and so much more, they where there! They have been here for me and are helping with my journey through life. It is because of them and the people like them in my life that I know that I am capable of great things.

They support me in all that I do. They have help shape me into the person that I am today. So this is what I would like to be able to give to my students. I want them to know that I am not just there to get a paycheck, but I am there for them to help them achieve whatever goals they have and I am there to make learning fun and adventurous. That I am there from them and them alone.  I plan on my students knowing that my classroom is a safe zone where they can express themselves and share their ideas about anything and furthermore as to how we will do things.

My students will know that we are a team and “Coming together is a beginning.  Keeping together is progress.  Embracing everyone is success.  ~Henry Ford. I want my students to dream big and know that I am dreaming big for and with them. The kind of school that I would love to work in is one that is be open-minded and willing to try things out new things, one that supports change. One that is invested in the students and not the state requirements, one that is cultivating leaders, and thinkers, with strong senses of self and the world. In addition I want the environment in all to be a family. Incidentally I do feel that the United States says that hat the care about education yet I do feel that some of the reasons so much emphasis is put on schooling is doubled faced and a little fishy.

*p.s As I have grown I know that this is not a philosophy and is more so ideas that could become one into my philosophy :)

  1. I am looking forward to seeing your philosophy evolve over the semester and across Phase II art education courses.
