Guest Page for Lauren Holland

This piece was created for Lauren Holland's big Idea book. Her big idea is about love!  I knew instantly after Lauren shared her journey map and talk about her piece that I had to be her guest entry. See the funny thing is that Lauren and I both work with mirrors are mirrored objects in our artworks. But what caused me to crave to be her guest entry was how she talked about her piece, her connection with it and what it represented and somehow I felt a close intertwining of our pieces and ideas. After Lauren spoke I had already started envisioning what type of piece I wanted to make for her! So after class I went and talk with Lauren and asking her questions because I wanted to know more about her and her identity which is a kawinkydink that my big idea book is about identity. After talking for some while I got to know more about Lauren and see that we shared similar ideologies. Then I went home and created her piece.

This piece is about that love is a beautiful gift however it can be a journey to figure it out. This journey takes time,  may cause pain,  but once you have understand it and grasp it truly in the end you come out with something even better than you could have ever dreamed of. The piece is to shows us that even though it my be dangerous and chaotic overall it beautiful.

The items are all housed within a box that has a butterfly on the  front of it in hopes to cause the viewer to think of freedom with wire behind it which are representational of energy bursting out. Then behind the glass you see text that are bible scriptures all related to love, letting  go, and trusting. But once the view is brave enough to open the box and look within they find the broken mirror ( which is incorporated to have the viewer become apart of the artwork and force them to think about what does this  text on the broken mirror pieces and the text connected to the glass have to do with me) then you also she thumb tacks, push pins, a clock piece without the hands that I want to show that we should not be worried on the time it takes but the process and enjoying the journey. Then the lastly hopefully the viewer see the beautiful quartz crystal heart and how stunning it ( this is where I hope that the viewer is drawn to the heart and takes the leap of reaching in a grabbing the heart which  I feel is just the gist of this peice the taking of risk being unafraid because we never no what's lies inside if we never open the box)!
