Expressing Inner States

Hmm how do I begin, normally I open with a definition, yet how can I define the expression of one's inner state! I can't but, I can define mines.

Expression of the inner state for me is a process of reflection, opening up and letting  go. The fact is that I came to my medium of photography in the utter need of a way to express myself. My camera is my life, it is my means of communicating and understanding who I am! When I am behind my camera is it hard to explain what happens, I feel free. The big idea of expressing inner states, I say is nothing new at all I would almost state that it is not an idea but an essential part of life. Since the beginning of time human beings long to be understood and to understand the world around them.

Bird talks about art's role in expressing unseen forces and the expressing of inner truths, give just a simple recognition of the depths in what inner expression allows to manifest. It goes beyond the inner truths of society to the realms of allowing the artist to become affected by their own work.

This is very much true for me. Most time in my work I get an idea of what I want to shoot and why, then once I have shot and enter the stages of arranging and selection the work itself revels things to me. I feel as if there is this intermingling of expressing inner states and the unconsciousness that we might not ever understand completely (and this is okay). For example with my series of photographs of empty classroom and object within classroom that have this coldness started from the thoughts of making a critic on the education systems, when in fact as it it more so about me and my educational upbringing and my passion to teach. that

"Art does not reproduce the visible, rather, it makes visible" - Paul Klee

This quote is very much true. And as future ARTIST teachers I  also want to leave you with this quote

"In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn.” - Phil Collins

Let that simmer...:)

Also I fount this amazing research piece, PLEASE check out these sections Under Creations- Realising Visions: Creation -Imagining and  Creation- Enacting and Creating (I found these quite interesting).
