Satire- the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice, folly, etc.
Satire ... Sarcasm... are these things the same? Well, anyway satire for me has been a hard concept to grasp in the art sense. It tends to take me awhile in noticing the satiricalness of many artworks. However that being said I do understand the idea of satire and the case for artist usage of this idea.
Bird writes that artist utilizing satire become or pose as the moral agents, registering the gap between appearances and underlying reality. This statement perturbed me, and I think that it is because I feel as even thought this might be the true for some artist not all artist are trying to accomplish Bird's statement. Satire in the sense of visual language can be quite provoking when done right. I must say I wish that I knew how to utilize this concept in my own work. I feel that in the pieces that I am working on now under the big idea of escapism, satire would add an enchanting twist. I am not quite sure in how I cloud achieve this, perhaps I would try satire out via the way in which I shoot or edited. I also could add a satirical statement with the show... But who knows this list of brain storming of ideas could gone on forever. So enough with that and time to put forth some action!
