Reflections

As I am sitting at the kitchen table reflecting about my week, I think about how I wish that today's class was not canceled. I miss my classmates, my friends,  my family. In last Friday's class we became closer, we learnt more about each others. We shared our dreams and struggles and gave comfort and words of encouragement. Now that I am sitting at this kitchen table struggling to believe in myself I am longing for class to not be canceled! Darn snow! I want to be in class to talk about the lesson I taught on Wednesday that focused on Matisse and the big idea of painting with scissors, the idea that we do not need crayons, markers, or even pencils to create art! The students (preschooler) were excited when I walked in. I always arrive about 30 minutes early to just be apart of the classroom before jumping into teaching my lesson. The reasoning for me is to connect, play and learn more about my students before teaching them the lesson, I first let the kiddos teach me something. Then we reconvene and the teacher reintroduce me and I begin to talk to them about the lesson.

So why is all of this important well because in this particular class, there other classroom teacher had to leave to take care of her son, so left in the classroom was just me, the other teacher and the kiddos. I had the privilege to head the other table! I still floated and worked with the other table as well but I MS. Shalonda was entrusted with this whole table of kiddos.  So we are at the end of our lesson and I am preparing to leave and one student was heading to the restroom and shouted do not leave without saying goodbye! My heart melted this is a saying that I also use in the Saturday classes I co-teach in.  So I waited for him to come out and he gave me the biggest hug which lead to a parade of hugs for Ms. Shalonda!

So what was the point of this lol.... Hmm well I don't know but I knew that if I was sharing this in class I could see all of your faces lighting up and laughing and maybe even reminiscing on your classroom experience similar to this one!

Well I'll tell you this even thought this class in not required and I have all of my electives I would trade this class nor drop this class because of what it means to my heart!

P.s.  The book that I used for the lesson is called " A Day With No Crayons" By Elizabeth Rusch, Chad Cameron. And I VTS this image by Matisse

  1. You can see the kids really thinking visually with adding color to paper in areas without a marker or crayons! I bet you were wonderful leading a table of kiddos on your own and that they felt completely happy and safe!

This class was extra for me as well but it is really, really important and I'm glad you feel the same way. Keep it up!
